How to calculate UK pension impact
Uses the same 2026/27 salary assumptions as the take-home tool. Shows the annual and monthly cost of your chosen gross pension contribution. Employer matching and employer NI savings are excluded. Extra relief at source is assumed to be claimed; allowances, investment growth and pension withdrawal taxes are excluded.

A worked example
With annual gross salary (£) of 50,000, annual cash bonus (£) of 0, gross employee pension (% of salary) of 5, annual taxable benefits in kind (£) of 0, monthly take-home cost of pension is 150 GBP. Change the example above to match your situation.
Enter amounts in the same currency and time period. Results display up to two decimal places; calculations use unrounded values. These estimates are for planning and education.
Common questions
Is the gross pension contribution my personal cost?
Usually your take-home cost is lower because of tax relief. Salary sacrifice can also reduce NI and student-loan deductions. These loan savings affect repayment timing rather than necessarily reducing your lifetime loan cost.
Does this include employer matching?
No. This comparison isolates the gross contribution funded from your salary. Add employer contributions separately when comparing your total pension package.
